Abstract:
The effects of axial stress fatigue tests on alloys 14S-T6, 24S -T4, and 75S-T6 were determined. Stress ratios of 0.15, 0.89, and infinity were applied in analyzing the effect of range of stress. The static ultimate strengths of these alloys were shown to be slightly higher than those of rolled materials. The static tensile strengths of notched extruded 14S-T6 and 75S-T6 alloys were about 10% higher than for unnotched specimens, while the tensile strenght of 24S-T4 was about the same under both conditions. The fatigue strengths of notched and unnotched specimens of 14S-T6 and 24S-T4 were slightly higher than those of rolled alloys at any life. The final conclusion was that the over-all fatigue behavior of extruded 14S-T6, 24S-T4, and 75S-T6 alloys may be considered the same as that of rolled alloys. Tabulated data are appended.
