Abstract:
Ejection seat tests were conducted from rocket propelled test carriages on the 10,000 foot FATF (Free Air Test Facility) Aerodynamic Research Track Edwards Air Force Base. Limit aircraft speed for emergency escape utilizing current ejection seat - catapult combinations was investigated. Ejection seat trajectory and acceleration data applicable to aircraft flying at or near sonic speed were secured. Discrepancy of data obtained "in-flight", theoretically, and from the Aerodynamic Track rocket carriage are discussed in this report.
