Abstract:
This in-house report (guidebook)provides guidelines and techniques for conducting Environmental Stress Screening (ESS) programs during development and production. ESS is a process whereby environmental stimulii are applied to electronic equipment in order to precipitate latent defects to early failure. Methods and procedures are provided for screening and eliminating defective parts, workmanship and process induced defects from electronic items during the manufacturing process. The methodology contained in the report enables the user to plan, monitor and control the screening process so as to achieve quantitative reliability objectives in a cost-effective manner. the report as been prepared in MIL-HDBK format so as to serve as a basis for a DOD handbook on ESS. Comments received on a previously circulated draft MIL-STD on ESS have been incorporated in the report. USe of the report (guidebook) will foster the development of a broader data base through which the ESS methodology can be refined.
