Abstract:
Samples of three aircraft turbine engine lubricants, MIL-L-7808, MIL-L-9236, and GTO- 790 (complex ester), were irradiated in a Dynamic Test Loop at Convair- Fort Worth. Each oil was exposed to the GTR flux for approximately twenty hours. A common dose-rate of 4. 1 x 108 ergs/g(C)-hr and 8. 1 x 109 n/cm2-sec (energies above 2.9 Mev) was maintained. Test samples we-re withdrawn about every two hours during irradiation and oil properties measured. The data are presented and comparisons made of the radiation resistance of the three oils. A brief summary of radiation effects work at other facilities is included and comments on the need for futurework are made.
