Report Number: WADD TR 61-72 Volume XI
Author(s): de Ruiter, E., Sandor, V., Tschamler, H., Halleux, A.
Corporate Author(s): Union Carbide European Research Associates
Laboratory: Directorate of Materials and Processes
Date of Publication: 1962-09
Pages: 30
Contract: AF 33(616)-6915
DoD Project: 7350
DoD Task: 735002
Identifier: AD0289848
Abstract:
A series of chemical and physical methods, previously developed for use in the study of the constitution of coals, has been applied to the definition of structural parameters for thirteen tar and pitch samples which have a wide range of properties and which are of interest in the fabrication of graphite bodies. Information obtained on the molecular size and composition indicates the presence of polycyclic compounds with a high degree of aromaticity. Evidence also points to the importance of large aromatic clusters.
