Abstract:
The purpose of the conference was to bring together active researchers in solid lubrication to consider and discuss fundamental and applied work. The conference program included sessions dealing with (1) the general aspects of current and future solid lubrication, (2) fundamentals, (3) bonded films, (4) compacts and composites, (5) applications, and (6) behavior in vacuum. Five of the six sessions included formal technical papers and related shorty presentations. This conference is considered a first in the area of solid lubrication. These proceedings provide a ready reference to the current state of the art in research and development in the field of solid lubrication. Successful applications are cited and future requirements are outlined. The papers and associated shorties cover a broad spectrum of solid lubrication technology from the use of mil specification films to advanced concept solid lubricants and lubricating methods.
