Abstract:
A damped precision mounting platform requires a viscoelastic damping material with a shear modulus an order of magnitude lower than existing General Electric Astra Space Division SMRDTM damping material formulations. Existing SMRDTM formulations were modified to achieve low shear stiffness and high damping over a broad range of temperature and frequency. New formulations were dynamically and mechanically characterized test results are presented. Five new formulations met the low. modulus, high damping objectives resulting in an efficient, highly effective damped platform design.
